The Engineer Who Shaped Maharashtra’s Coop & Sugar Industry Passes Away

Nashik- Shri. Shivajirao Daulatrao Patil (93), a highly respected Structural Engineer and a prominent contributor to Maharashtra’s cooperative and industrial development, passed away on 24th March 2026 at his residence, Daulat Bungalow, Tilakwadi, Nashik.

A Masters in Science in Structural Engineering, Mr. Patil had an illustrious international and national career. He worked as a field engineer on programs associated with the John F. Kennedy Space Center (now NASA) before returning to India, where he became a key consultant for numerous large-scale projects including sugar factories, cogeneration plants, distilleries, and power generation units across Maharashtra.

Over the decades, he worked closely with several prominent leaders and institutions, playing a vital role in shaping the cooperative sector. His contributions extend to more than 250 projects across sugar, ethanol, and allied industries. He was also a founder member in the establishment of the Nashik Industrial Cooperative Estate (NICE) along with Padma Shri Babusheth Rathi, and contributed to institutional and spiritual developments including the Swami Samarth Kendra Temple at Trimbakeshwar.

His name was featured in the directories of Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in Asia. He was also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India Chapter).

Despite his global exposure and professional success, Mr. Patil remained deeply grounded. Known for his simplicity and generosity, he extended support to many individuals from Maharashtra in establishing themselves abroad, particularly in the United States. His life journey—from humble beginnings, including personal sacrifices to pursue opportunities overseas, to becoming a respected figure in his field—remains an inspiration.

He is survived by his two sons, Mr. Ninad Shivajirao Patil and Mr. Nitul Shivajirao Patil, along with their families. His legacy continues through the next generation, carrying forward his values and contributions across sectors including engineering, public service, agriculture, and industry.
