Sugar Sector Gets *Vision 2047* Roadmap Committee

Pune: The Maharashtra Sugar Commissionerate, in a significant move, announced the formation of a high-level committee on May 23, 2025, tasked with developing a “Vision 2047” document for the state’s sugar sector. This strategic roadmap aims to steer Maharashtra’s sugar industry towards sustainable growth, innovation, and long-term stability over the next two decades.
Headed by the Sugar Commissioner of Maharashtra, the committee comprises key stakeholders including the Director, Sugar Administration and Finance; Regional Joint Directors from Solapur and Nanded; and Managing Directors from the Sugar Association, Sakhar Sangh, WISMA and National Federation New Delhi, Director General, Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), and Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA).
Notable industry experts, Shri Dilip Patil (Co-Chairman, Sugar Bioenergy Forum, IFGE) and Shri P.G. Medhe (Former Managing Director, Chhatrapati Rajaram Cooperative Sugar Factory), are also part of this crucial committee.
The committee’s mandate extends to recommending policies for various sugar and by-product projects, including co-generation, distilleries, ethanol and multi-feed ethanol projects, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), biodiesel, Compressed Biogas (CBG), solar energy, and green hydrogen. A key focus will be to suggest incentive measures to encourage the establishment of these projects within sugar factories, fostering diversification and future-proofing the industry.
