June 1st marks the birthday of Shri Shahajirao Bhad, affectionately known as S. B. Bhad—Chairman of The Deccan Sugar Technologists Association (India) (DSTA), Founder of the renowned company S. S. Engineers, and a towering figure in the sugar industry. On behalf of SugarToday, we extend our warmest wishes to him!

Established in 1980, S. S. Engineers has set new benchmarks by constructing over fifty sugar factories (turnkey projects), more than three hundred mills, over fifty co-generation projects, and 120 boilers. The company’s achievements also include the construction of three units for the prestigious Bajaj Hindusthan, each with a crushing capacity of 10,000 tonnes per day.

Shri Bhad earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from the Government College of Engineering, Pune, in 1972. His excellent academic record ensured a smooth transition into the professional world. He began his career as a Design Engineer at Walchandnagar Industries, where he worked for about five years. He then served as a consultant at J. P. Mukherjee & Associates for some time. Leveraging this experience, he went on to establish his own consultancy firm.

After providing technical consultancy to various industries for several years, Shri Bhad ventured into the manufacturing sector. With an innate research-oriented mindset, a constant drive to innovate, and an indomitable will to realize new ideas, he founded S. S. Engineers in Bhosari MIDC with modest capital. He worked tirelessly to bring the company to prominence. Today, S. S. Engineers is a leading name in the sugar industry’s engineering sector and is especially dominant in turnkey projects. Hundreds of engineers and researchers now work with the company.

Located in Bhosari MIDC, Pimpri-Chinchwad Industrial Area, S. S. Engineers has become a globally recognized company under Shri Bhad’s leadership. Shri Bhad hails from Gaudgaon village in Barshi taluka, Solapur district, and was born into a farming family. Overcoming numerous adversities from the very beginning—starting his journey from the farm bunds—he has surmounted many challenges to reach the global industrial stage. His life story is not only a guide but also a constant source of inspiration for the younger generation. The metaphor “creating the universe from nothing” fits him perfectly, and his name stands at the forefront of those who embody this spirit. He has built this world through immense hard work, and his stature is as unshakable as a steadfast star.

Since 2022, Shri Bhad has shouldered the responsibility of being President of The Deccan Sugar Technologists Association (India), a distinguished organization. Under his leadership, the association has undergone many people-friendly changes, welcomed new members, and initiated numerous new activities, thereby increasing its reserve funds.

Wherever he gets involved, he sets new benchmarks for success. At DSTA, too, he has given the organization new dimensions with his creativity and leadership skills. Some of his notable qualities include a positive attitude, courageous spirit, a habit of always being engaged in work, speech sweeter than sugar yet firm in decisions, the ability to take everyone along, creativity, decisiveness, indomitable willpower, confidence, and the humility to remain grounded even at the pinnacle of success.

The word “Yes” is always present in his nature—the words “No” or “Can’t” simply do not exist in his vocabulary. Hence, the initials “Yes Be” suit him perfectly. Even the name of his company begins with a double “S,” reflecting positivity in every aspect. May he be blessed with excellent health and a long, prosperous life—this is our heartfelt prayer!
